This new program provides CompTIA A+ training and IBM SkillsBuild professional skills development for up to 2,000 students in 2023 in communities that are underrepresented in technology across the country leading to industry recognized credentials and employment.
The program supports CompTIA’s mission of unlocking the potential of tech job seekers and is part of IBM’s larger initiative to skill 30 million people globally by 2030.
This new initiative is designed to support individuals who are members of underserved communities. This includes women, minorities, veterans, individuals with disabilities, those in rural communities, those who have limited education and low-income individuals. For job placement purposes, program applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Training is mapped to the key technical skills needed for success in entry-level tech roles
Identifying, using, and connecting hardware components and devices, including the broad knowledge about different devices that is now necessary to support the remote workforce
Install and support Windows OS including command line & client support. System configuration imaging and troubleshooting for Mac OS, Chrome OS, Android and Linux OS.
Install & configure laptops and other mobile devices and support applications to ensure connectivity for end- users
Troubleshoot PC and mobile device issues including common OS, malware and security issues.
Explain types of networks and connections including TCP/IP, WIFI and SOHO
Compare & contrast cloud computing concepts & set up client-side virtualization
Troubleshoot real-world device and network issues quickly and efficiently
Identify and protect against security vulnerabilities for devices and their network connections
Follow best practices for safety, environmental impacts, and communication and professionalism
It takes forever to get a degree and plus lots of money, so getting the certificate is going to enable me to start my career in the IT field and computer field and just kind of jumpstart everything.
