CompTIA Statement on the House Passage of Perkins Reauthorization

Jun 22, 2017

WASHINGTON – CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, released the following statement from CompTIA’s executive vice president for public advocacy Elizabeth Hyman following the House passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.

“CompTIA applauds the House of Representatives on the bipartisan passage of H.R. 2353, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. The ‘Perkins' Act which passed with overwhelming support provides American workers with needed tools to train for high-skilled positions that will help alleviate the growing IT skills gap.

"According to the CompTIA Cyberstates report, nearly 7 million people were employed in tech occupations in 2016. However, with nearly 600,000 unfilled job posting during the last three months of 2016, additional training and education is needed to ensure our country has the workforce necessary for the growing digital economy. The Perkins Act will enhance work-based learning opportunities for students, ensure that CTE programs are aligned with local and regional workforce demands, and promote the use of industry recognized certifications. We hope the Senate will take up and pass this measure as soon as possible.”
