CompTIA Cyberstates 2020™ reveals tech sector’s impact
Helena, Mont. – Information technology (IT) employment in Montana totals more than 23,000 workers, according to Cyberstates 2020™, the definitive guide to the U.S. tech industry, occupations and trends published annually by CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global IT industry.
Net tech employment stood at 23,442 at the end of 2019, accounting for an estimated 4.5% of the state’s total workforce. Between 2010 and 2019 net tech employment grew by nearly 3,800 jobs, an increase of 19.2% There are 2,460 tech business establishments in Montana.
The tech sector accounts for $2.1 billion in economic activity, or 4.4% of the state’s economy.
The estimated median tech occupation wage in Montana is $62,586, 64% higher than the median wage for all occupations in the state.

Cyberstates 2020 is based on CompTIA’s analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI), Burning Glass Technologies, Hoovers and other sources.
