New Resource from CompTIA Helps Technology Businesses Enter State and Local Government Markets

Mar 29, 2017

Quick Start Guide outlines strategies to help win business in $100 billion market

Downers Grove, Ill. – Companies eager to tap into the $100 billion-plus market for state and local government technology purchases now have access to a new resource from CompTIA, the world’s leading technology industry association.

The CompTIA Quick Start Guide to Winning State and Local Government Contracts offers advice, strategies and tactics that small and medium sized technology businesses can use to win state and local government customers for their products and services.

The free guide is a product of the CompTIA State & Local Government and Education (SLED) Council, a consortium of executives from leading technology companies who focus on governments.

“The motivation to win a piece of this business has never been greater,” said Jennifer Saha, director, public sector councils, CompTIA.

Government tech spending is projected to increase four percent this year and surpass $100 billion annually by 2018, according to a February 2017 report from Forrester Research.[1]

“Winning state and local service contracts involves producing the most competitive bid and the most convincing one, while assuring civic leaders of your reliability and your honesty,” Saha said. “This guide reveals how companies can set themselves apart, uncover contract opportunities and win business in this incredibly lucrative market.”

The CompTIA Quick Start Guide to Winning State and Local Government Contracts provides eight strategic steps to consider to land a government contract. These steps include how to best get to know a government customer; relationship building tactics; why partnering can be the key to success; best ways to differentiate a small and midsize business’ (SMB) when securing a contract; a checklist to consider using to land a government contract; tips to preparing a bid; and what to do when a bid has been won.

The guide also reveals strategies to demonstrate to prospective public sector clients how businesses can help them mitigate risk, during both procurement and deployment.
