New exam places heightened emphasis on cloud security and high availability
Downers Grove, Ill. – CompTIA, the leader in training and professional certifications for the global information technology (IT) workforce, is inviting IT professionals to be a part of the first group to earn the new CompTIA Cloud+ credential.
CompTIA is seeking beta test takers for an updated version of it Cloud+ certification; and for the first time, the beta exam is available via a remote testing option.
“Test takers have the opportunity to take the exam at a location, date and time that’s most convenient for them,” said Randall Edwards, senior manager, certification product management, at CompTIA.
The beta exam, priced at just $50 USD, is available now through October 6, or until a sufficient number of qualified beta tests are delivered. Candidates who past the beta exam will become CompTIA Cloud+ certified.
Increased emphasis on security, availability
The CompTIA Cloud+ beta exam places a greater emphasis on cloud security and high availability, which ensures users have around-the-clock access to data and software-as-a-service applications. The foundational aspects of cloud technology, as well as compliance requirements – a key function in today’s fast-changing regulatory environment – are also emphasized in the test.
“Strong security and 24/7 user access to data and applications have always been important in the business setting, but they have become critical in the work-from-home world we live in today,” Edwards said. “IT professionals who are CompTIA Cloud+ certified have demonstrated their knowledge and ability to implement robust security measures in any cloud environment regardless of which cloud vendor solutions are in place.”
Interest in cloud computing, already strong among businesses, has gained momentum during the global pandemic.
In a June survey by CompTIA of some of its corporate members companies, 50% of managed services providers and technology solution providers reported receiving new inquiries or business opportunities from customers interested in shifting their on-premise applications and infrastructure to the cloud.[1] The same survey revealed that 33% of technology companies had responded to customers wanting to address cybersecurity issues related to the cloud.
About CompTIA Cloud+
CompTIA Cloud+ validates a range of abilities, knowledge and skills required of system administrators and other IT professionals to maintain and optimize cloud infrastructure services and to perform effectively in data center jobs. Unlike vendor-specific certifications, CompTIA Cloud+ covers multiple environments, validating skills that help prevent cloud provider lock-in and promote more flexible approaches to troubleshooting in cloud environments.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has adopted CompTIA Cloud+ to ensure that its personnel and contractors are appropriately trained. In February 2020, CompTIA Cloud+ met the DoD Manual 8570.01 requirements for those who work with sensitive information and need to satisfy specific job requirements in three vital workforce categories: Information Assurance Manager Level I, Cybersecurity Service Provider Infrastructure Support and CSSP Analyst.
The following qualifications are needed to take the CompTIA Cloud+ beta exam:
Registration for the beta exam is open and available through Pearson VUE at https://home.pearsonvue.com/comptia.
The new CompTIA Cloud+ exam (CV1-003) is scheduled for availability in late May 2021.
