Washington, D.C., – The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading trade association for the global information technology (IT) industry, released the following statement today from Cinnamon Rogers, executive vice president for public advocacy, regarding passage of the “Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act,” or HEROES Act, by the U.S. House of Representatives:  

“The HEROES Act provides $2 billion for critically needed workforce training programs to help Americans who’ve lost their jobs during the pandemic. These funds will provide dislocated workers with access to a wide range of training options, online learning tools, and virtual programs including those designed to upskill and reskill workers for the jobs of the future in cybersecurity, AI, data science and more. Congress must take big steps to help get Americans working again. Dedicated resources for training programs will create pathways to help build a strong workforce and make our economy flourish.

“The HEROES Act also provides vital assistance to America’s schools and libraries by authorizing funding for internet services, equipment and connected devices for teachers and students across the country at a time when they’re dependent on digital learning. Investments must be made to guarantee all Americans have access to Wi-Fi hotspots or wireless and broadband internet, critical services that provide the primary connection to healthcare providers, educational institutions and government services at this time.

“We urge Congress and the Administration to work together to pass a bipartisan package to help workers and families, as well as reinvigorate the U. S. economy, during this unprecedented time. We must adopt policies that help displaced workers, support the vital technologies keeping the government and millions of businesses operating efficiently and securely, including hospitals, and provide all Americans access to essential services and programs.”
