Washington, D.C. – CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, announced today that its Human Services Information Technology Advisory Group (HSITAG), is supporting the nonprofit organizations Foster Care to Success and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children with its philanthropic dollars. Both organizations will receive $5,000 from the advisory group.

Each year, CompTIA member communities, public sector and advisory councils select nonprofit organizations to support with charitable dollars. The contributions made through CompTIA Giving, a philanthropic initiative to give back to local communities through philanthropy, bringing positive awareness to selected charities and CompTIA, and acting as a way of encouraging individual charitable service.

“This year, we chose to support Foster Care to Success and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children because both truly encompass the mission of both CompTIA and HSITAG,” said Jacque Gombach, chair of the HSITAG Charitable Giving Committee, member of the HSITAG executive council and Founder & CEO of Captuva.

“Our donation to Foster Care to Success will help the most vulnerable communities achieve their education goals,” she continued. “We are also honored to give to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which will use our donation to enhance IT initiatives that aid in their mission of finding missing children, reducing child sexual exploitation and preventing future victimization.”

Foster Care to Success helps young adults who have “aged out” of government-sponsored foster care because they turned 18 years old or graduated from high school. The organization provides academic coaches, personal mentors, care packages and internship opportunities to 5,000 young people annually.

For the second straight year, HSITAG’s contribution will help Veronica Ortiz, a foster care alumnus who is expected to graduate from Allan Hancock College next year and hopes to transfer to California Polytechnic State University after that.

“I am working very hard to keep a very good GPA so I can get accepted by this university,” Ortiz said. “Thank you so much for your consideration in supporting my educational goals and making my dreams come true.”

Tina Raheem, director of scholarships and grants for Foster Care to Success, points out that most 18 year olds lack the skills and resources needed to become financially independent overnight. Raheem said the continued support from HSITAG is meaningful.

“Each donation gives one more youth opportunities they wouldn’t have without it,” she said. “Foster Care to Success is very appreciative of the HSITAG for their contribution and for recognizing the potential of foster youth to achieve their hopes and dreams.”

HSITAG also donated to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children®, the leading private, nonprofit organization helping to find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation and prevent future victimization. As part of its work as the clearinghouse and resource center on issues relating to missing and exploited children, NCMEC operates a hotline, 1-800-THE-LOST® (1-800-843-5678), and has assisted in the recovery of more than 243,000 missing children. NCMEC also operates the CyberTipline®, a mechanism for reporting suspected child sexual exploitation, which has received more than 21.5 million reports since it was created in 1998.
