CompTIA VP Amy Kardel Appointed to U.S. Department of Labor Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship

Committee tasked with identifying apprenticeship and training strategies to boost the economy and build an equitable workforce

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, announced today that Amy Kardel, its vice president for strategic workforce relationships, has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (ACA).

The 29-member advisory committee, with representatives from unions, employers, community colleges and other workforce stakeholders, is tasked with providing advice and recommendations on issues related to Registered Apprenticeships. This includes promoting greater awareness of the benefits of apprenticeship, fostering increased alignment between apprenticeship opportunities and workforce and education systems, expanding apprenticeship into new industries and occupations and ensuring equity for under-represented populations.

“Many employers, especially in the tech community, are uncertain that an apprenticeship program is right for them," Kardel said. “But once they understand the benefits of developing a predictable, skilled talent pipeline they are hooked. Just as important, apprenticeships create opportunities for a broader group of individuals to have access quality career opportunities.”

Along with partner Maher & Maher, a recognized leader in building innovative and successful apprenticeship initiatives, Kardel leads the CompTIA Apprenticeships for Tech program. The two organizations were selected by were selected by the U.S. Department of Labor to participate in the national apprenticeship initiative that is helping companies of all sizes and from all industries fill their staffing needs for technology professionals and to do so in a way to opens career opportunities for more individuals.
