LONDON – Creating a workforce that is productive, resilient and technology-savvy requires an ongoing commitment to and investment in skills-building and expansion. That key message was delivered today at the Innovation 2025 conference by a representative of CompTIA.
“The UK workforce must adapt to the challenges of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other technological innovations to remain competitive and secure,” said Luke Barton, senior manager. CompTIA, during his Innovation 20254 session. Barton spoke on "Empowering the UK Workforce: Building Essential Skills for a Secure and AI-Driven Future.”
Innovation 2025 brings together government leaders from across the globe who are responsible for the transformation and acceleration of their public sector organisations and services. The conference is co-hosted by the UK Government, UK Civil Service and the Cabinet Office.
On the cybersecurity front, Barton said organizations need to strengthen their ability to identify and counter cyber threats.
“It begins with a ‘zero trust’ approach on how to think about data, applications and user behavior in a modern digital environment,” Barton explained. “It means adding a layer of verification, such as identity and access management or multi-factor authentication and eliminating any activity that cannot be isolated or independently verified.”
With expectations that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a significant role in business operations, the demand for AI-related skills is rising – in every area of IT operations and throughout the broader workforce.
AI, cybersecurity and data and analytics all rated highly as digital literacy skills sought by employers in a 2024 CompTIA survey of human resources professions in the UK and other countries around the world.[1] A net 75% of UK respondents said that digital literacy skills generally are significantly or somewhat more important to their workforce. The same report found that 54% of UK organisations intended to increase spending on staff training and development over the next 12 months.
