Hanover, Md. —Creating IT Futures awarded TEKsystems with the Polaris Award, recognizing the company’s outstanding leadership in building information technology (IT) careers for those in need of new career opportunities.
TEKsystems became an employment partner with Creating IT Futures’ IT-Ready career program in 2012 and has placed nearly 80 IT-Ready graduates into tech jobs in Charlotte, NC; Chicago; Minneapolis / St. Paul; Omaha; Philadelphia; and Portland, OR. Plus earlier this year, TEKsystems stepped up to help expand IT-Ready to more cities, assisting Creating IT Futures with launching a permanent home for IT-Ready classes in Charlotte, NC.
At no cost to students, IT-Ready assesses, trains, certifies and places unemployed and under-employed adults in their first jobs in the IT field, which has a shortage of qualified workers. IT-Ready has become one of America’s most successful tech training programs with 88 percent of its students graduating and 86 percent of graduates garnering paid IT jobs. With a commitment to building a diverse tech workforce, IT-Ready’s student body has averaged 66 percent people of color and 44 percent female.
“It’s a great honor to receive this award from Creating IT Futures,” said Franklin Reed, director of inclusion and diversity, TEKsystems. “I see this as a reflection of all the hard work from everyone who has invested their time and energy into creating opportunities in IT careers for those who may not have seen that as an option before. I hope to continue to build this partnership and even more pathways to IT careers going forward.”
“In each IT-Ready city, we strive to bring local employers, non-profits and government representatives together to grow the tech workforce in that city. TEKsystems has become one of our most valued partners, not only in placing our graduates into good-paying IT jobs, but also in helping to prepare students for meeting with employers and to enable more students to enroll in IT-Ready,” said Charles Eaton, CEO, Creating IT Futures. “We’re proud to present our Polaris Award for leadership in building IT careers to TEKsystems.”
