As noted in other policy pages of CompTIA’s website, CompTIA takes the security and integrity of our certification exams very seriously. To that end, CompTIA reserves the right to enforce permanent bans, preventing candidates from testing via Pearson VUE’s remote proctoring platform, also known as “OnVUE”. When sufficient evidence of intentional fraudulent activity is presented to justify such an approach, CompTIA will ban candidates from using the remote proctored option during the Pearson VUE registration process, requiring such candidates to appear in-person at a testing center.
Remote proctoring allows candidates the flexibility of taking an exam from home or a private location where the physical environment is not owned or controlled by a certified Pearson VUE test administrator. Unlike test centers, remote proctored exams are proctored via a laptop webcam and laptop audio.
CompTIA psychometric analyses and data shows that both modalities of delivery (test center proctored and remote proctored) are equivalent and secure. At the same time, we acknowledge that candidates or bad actors who have premeditated intent to circumvent physical and/or technological security measures, can do so from time to time. When this occurs, we will permanently ban candidates from using this modality of testing, permanently.
Similarly, when given sufficient evidence, if CompTIA identifies (in coordination with Pearson VUE) that a test center administrator has circumvented protocols, facilitating intentional and premeditated fraudulent activities, CompTIA will suspend or Pearson may shut down the test center and, if applicable, CompTIA will invalidate the scores of candidates who have tested at said test center.
If you ever suspect that a candidate or test center administrator is not acting in an ethical manner, or has achieved certification via fraudulent means, please do not hesitate to contact CompTIA’s security team by filling out our hotline form.
